A good time as any to WELCOME you to my blog and to introduce myself! I am super #excited to welcome y'all! This is a Where I intend to talk about all things Halloween and all things Disney too!
As a matter of fact, this is a place to just speak your mind about #popculture in general but obviously leaning towards the #magic and #horror we find in everyday life! I want you to feel at home here.
About me:
I am a self professed Horror and #Disney #geek aficionado! Since the age of 5, I have been interested in all things Disney and eventually by age 9, all things horror! It was soon enough that I discovered Disney has plenty of horror embedded into it. Just like Horror can pack plenty of that Disney heart or magic in its genre as well!
Obviously and for anyone who loves the two genres, there are three Disney movies that perfectly blended the horror in them. I am talking about #AliceinWonderland, #Pinocchio and #TheNightmareBeforeChristmas of course. What can be scarier than a child lost or someone exploring a town devoted to scary characters and trying to steal a cheerful holiday? Yep. Plus #Halloweentown is just a dream come true for a #halloween fan!
Of course, later on, I would embrace the horror genre all by itself. My first horror experience was as many others, #TheExorcist. I watched it against all odds because - you probably guessed it- my parents forbid me to do so! When I watched that movie, it was easy to consider the implications of a girl being possesed by a demon. Most of the Disney movies always had children as the main characters and here we had a girl who did something she was not supposed to and ended up paying the consequences. I should have been scared but I was enthralled!
My #love for horror just continued to increase from there on and now that I think of it, I especially love horror movies that somehow or another have to do with children. There is something just wildly scary about a child in danger and how they must figure things out on their own as most adults do not believe them... In that regard, it was The Exorcist, #TheShining and #Poltergeist that truly exposed me to then horror genre and to how families (just like in Disney movies) played a big part of the events in the stories. After all, are not those three movies just like most Disney movies about #FAMILY?
INSTAGRAM and Beyond...
I want to direct you to look through my #Instagram page. I invite you to see what I am all about and what we share in common. The magic and horror can be found not just in Disney and Horror movies but everywhere! After all, this is "where we find the magic and horror anywhere."
My Instagram page is a shrine to #popculture in general but mainly to Horror and Disney. I invite you to collaborate with me and tell me what you like and dislike. As experts point out, "Like Twitter, Instagram focuses on the more casual side of networking with others. "
I would love for you to buy, trade and sell different collectibles, movies, and memorabilia through my page. Join me and help me continue to build a community where Disney and Horror converge in the best way!
Movie Recommendations and MORE...
Having deep meaningful conversations about movies is truly one of the best experiences ever! I remember my #teen years working at a #blockbuster! Speak about some of the best experiences of my life! I loved and still love sharing my favorite movies with anyone who cares to listen, More so than with anyone else, I would love to share my favorite movies with people who have the same interests as me.
"Watching a movie can often be something that many of us look forward to, it allows you to relax, disconnect and have a good time. When you watch a movie, you experience different emotions without suffering the real-life side effects. It helps many of us to relax, decrease anxiety, inspire motivation and can even give you energy for real life!" Just like the latter, there are plenty of benefits to watching and sharing your love for movies.
With that in mind, allow me to point you to a section in my blog dedicated to my favorite movies. I start this off with a hidden gem called #TheLodge, which can be found on #hulu. You definetely need to check it out. it's a story about family, fear, and grief. And if you cannot tell yet, yes, it is about children in peril facing a horrible frightening situation.
So, I want to continue by talking about my TOP FIVE HORROR MOVIES & my TOP FIVE DISNEY MOVIES! These are some of the movies I will focus on my blog posts and on my movie recommendations...
Shall we?

Kudos to you if you can find the scary part in each of those Disney flicks and if you are still here with ME... Honestly, Disney has a history of scary fairy tales, especially when you consider where most of their fairy tales come from!
My favorite #horror movie is definetely #hereditary. This is one of the most recent horror movies I have seen, fairly new - maybe a couple of years long. Watching this movie was such a roller-coaster of emotions. I could never catch a break. It starts slow and you do not know what is truly happening from the get go but after a very important completely unexpected #turningpoint , the movie goes off the rails (in a good way) and never lets up. Such an amazing film with a great scary psychological disturbing script, a tense musical score and plenty of scares that will stay with you for long after you have watched the movie. #tonicollette was mesmerizing and quite honestly robbed from major awards. My current theory on this is that many voters for major awards were just too afraid to watch the movie #justicefortoni #recognizehereditaryyoucowards ;)
Speaking of snubs for awards and of Toni Collette, how about #thesixthsense ? Another psychological horror gem and probably the only movie that has made me walk out of a movie theatre. Not because it was gory or too disturbing but because it messed me up. SPOILER ALERT, the part where the main character sees this little boy ghost and it just terrifies him. That scene connected to me because this particular ghost was a boy who had died when he shot himself with his dad's gun. This happened to a family member of mine. At that point, I was just too emotional and I kept thinking of how horrifying it would be for a kid to go through this- seeing ghosts and not being able tell anyone! Just too much!

Speaking of kids, we have #insidious! This is another masterpiece (let's only think of the second one since the 3-4th were very lame lol). This movie takes the #hauntedhouse genre and turns it on its head. It truly makes a simple very basic story about a family having issues and completely spins it into such a horrific experience! Bonus points for exploring something we have not seen much in horror with #astralprojection and for including one of the scariest yet silliest #demons in horror history, yes #lipstickdemon we are talking about you! HAHA- The movie benefits from plenty of effective jump scares and from the perfect chemistry between #rosebyrne and #patrickwilson - and of course, how to forget the amazing #linshaye in a quasi cameo that pretty much makes her steal the movie and run with it! She was so good that now this franchise has her as its star!
Now, when it comes to stars #sleepyhollow is definetely one of my favorites as it shows #johnnydepp at his prime facing one of the most significant characters in American Literature: #theheadlesshorseman. This movie yes is silly and cheesy at times but you are in the presence of greatness as not only Depp shines but #timburton in quite probably his last great movie (in my opinion at least). The score, the photography and the script are spot on! #christinaricci is also very good and #christopherwalken chews scenery in one of his best roles just like a pre-#harrypotter #michaelgambon and the always welcome #mirandarichardson. The movie plays with the horror conventions and tropes and gives us a #gothic miracle of a #romantic horror movie with plenty of layers!
I would say my number five spot would be shared by two horror movies close to my heart! #thering and #elespinazodeldiablo or #thedevilsbackbone. I think the most effective horror movies are those that connect with the audience and these two just like The Sixth Sense crawled under my skin and made me think so much after the movie was over.
In The Ring #naomiwatts playing a fearless mother trying to get to the bottom of an #urbanlegend completely steals the show. This movie made me contemplate so much and that video! I did a project for some urban legends back in high school and when watching this movie, I kept thinking of how easy it is to be absorbed by legends like that and how you keep thinking of how these legends could be true or not. SCARY STUFF! This movie is truly disturbing and so effective. The story will get to you no matter what and of course, special mention to the original #ringu, which is just as effective and scary!
Meanwhile #TheDevilsBackbone is another film where little kids are at risk and no one believes them! Again, this clicked with me so much because I experience something similar when I was younger. I was at a boarding school and of course, like any decent school-there were all these stories about possible ghosts and things that went bump into the night. This movie is a beautiful almost poetic gothic horror experience that begs to be experienced!
So, that is my horror TOP FIVE- Now, let me talk about my Disney Top Five! My favorite #disney movie without a doubt is #thebeautyandthebeast . I know I know, you will think this is a kids' movie but c'mon do not tell it would not be scary to be kidnapped by a strange #beast in pretty much a #haunted castle where all the items come alive and interact with you? Oh, hello- SCARY STUFF! The fact that she falls in love with her captor is a whole other scary situation btw! But anyways, the movie is #timeless and #funny and yes #romantic and with great #songs. This movie holds the distinction of being the first animated movie to be nominated to major awards!
And if we are circling back to awards, it is only fitting that #insideout would come next. A movie that truly transcends in so many aspects. It deals with psychological aspects of humans as well as their fears and personalities! The movie is hilarious, full of amazing characters and just another roller coaster of a movie BUT do not let all that cutesy stuff fool you- you are before one of the scariest movies #pixar has created. And many of these fears are just too real. Scared of being #lonely, of #clowns, of losing a #bestfriend- uh yeah this is not for you! Plus there is plenty of scary stuff when it comes to the many unknowns we face when growing up...
If we are growing up, we need to consider my third and fourth spots #thelittlemermaid and #toystory3. Both deal with growing up in different ways. The Little Mermaid truly embraces some of the darkest aspects from its original story and also gives one of the most memorable in #ursula- this movie has so many scary elements to it not only with the #seawitch but with this young girl going through so much without being able to talk! Imagine that, going through things you have never experienced and not being able to say how you feel or being at risk of becoming a slave to someone pretty much if you don't make something happen? Yep- scary stuff!
Then, we got Toy Story 3, just the best installment in that franchise and with so much horror in it. Going from the multilayered villain to the fear of losing those you love the most or being forgotten. And let's not even dive deep into the third act or the fact that the toys could not escape their new 'prison'! Such a blast full of emotions too, the way Pixar and Disney always do!
My number five would be a tie for #thenightmarebeforechristmas and #aliceinwonderland. The first gave us so many memorable songs and characters such as #jackskellington and #oogieboogie and of course it pretty much exemplifies all I am about! Disney and horror mash up for the win! #halloweentown is my happy place. This is the ultimate Tim Burton movie too! Just the perfect animated movie- beautiful and haunting too! If I placed it this far on my top five is just because it is such an obvious choice but that does not take one bit away from it.
Same can be said for the terrifying Alice! Such a trip! One of the scariest movies I ever saw growing up just because you never know what is actually happening and if you connect with the main character's conflict, then you are truly in trouble too as she pretty much gets high on mushrooms! LOL- Well, not really but I mean c'mon the movie just goes crazy almost from the first ten minutes. It is funny, insightful and full of quirky, strange characters that could equally scare and enthrall you as a kid!

But anyways, bringing this to a closure, I would love to point out some special mentions that did not make the cut but are still some of my favorites. #theexorcist and #theshining are two horror classics that although may not have aged very well, still manage to elicit some pretty decent reactions and provide some amazing psychological scares! They are classic horror for sure! #Aladdin and #thelionking are two Disney classics that have main characters who go through some traumatic horrifying experiences for sure and not only count with stellar soundtracks/ songs but also with two of the best Disney villains ever #jafar and especially #scar can be terrifying yet funny for sure!
Also, I do love #horroricons such as #michaelmyers and #ghostface and some of their movies are classics but it was difficult to keep this to my top favorites. If anything, my favorite horror villain would Michael Myers for sure!
